How do I change the camera view in flat.social?
Use the view selector to switch between four camera views: Normal, Isometric, Top, and First-person. The selector sits near the bottom-left of the room. Hover it and the four options fan out, then click the one you want.
The four camera views
Each view changes how you see the room, not how others see you. Pick whichever feels natural:
- Normal is the third-person view, looking over your avatar's shoulder. Good all-rounder for walking and chatting.
- Isometric is an angled overhead view, like a tabletop game. Great for seeing where groups have gathered.
- Top looks straight down from above. Best for navigating a busy map and spotting open space.
- First-person puts you behind your avatar's eyes. You can turn with the keyboard to look around.
What is first-person view?
First-person view shows the room through your avatar's own eyes, so you see what they see. In flat.social you turn to look around using the keyboard, and W moves you forward in whatever direction you're facing.
New to a room? Start in Top or Isometric to scan where people are, then switch to Normal once you've picked a group to walk toward.
Which view should I use?
There is no wrong answer, and switching takes one click. Normal suits most conversations. Top and Isometric help you read a crowded room at a glance. First-person is the most immersive and pairs well with exploring a detailed map. Try each one in your first minute and settle on a favourite.
Your view is personal. Changing it never moves your avatar or changes how anyone else sees the space.
