How do I set my name and avatar in flat.social?
Open your profile settings. There you set a display name, choose a username, and upload an avatar image you can crop before saving. These are what other people see when they look at your tile, your name label, or your profile.
How to set your name and avatar
- 1Open profile settings
Open your profile settings from the room. You will see fields for your name, username, and avatar.
- 2Set your display name
Type the name others will see. It can be 1 to 100 characters, so a full name or a nickname both work.
- 3Pick a username
Choose a username of 3 to 30 characters using letters, numbers, and underscores. It is unique and shown in-game.
- 4Upload and crop your avatar
Click your avatar to pick an image, then crop it in the editor so your face fits the circle. It saves when you confirm.
- 5Save your changes
Select Save Changes to apply your name and username. Your updates show to people in the room right away.
Display name vs username
The two names do different jobs. Your display name is the friendly label, 1 to 100 characters, with no special rules. Your username is your unique handle, 3 to 30 characters, and only letters, numbers, and underscores. It is shown in-game and has to be unique, so if your first pick is taken, add a number or underscore.
If you don't set a name, flat.social gives you an auto-generated one so you can join right away. Set your own so people recognise you instead of a random handle.
Upload and crop your avatar
Click your avatar in profile settings to pick an image file. A cropper opens so you can frame your face inside the circle before it saves. A clear avatar makes you easy to spot in the people panel and on your video tile in a Conference room.
Use a square, well-lit photo of your face. It crops cleanly into the circular avatar and reads better at small sizes.
