What are the flat.social room types?
Flat.social has three room types, and you choose one when you create a room: Open Spatial, Conference, and Chat. Open Spatial is the signature experience, a walkable 3D space with proximity audio. Conference is a classic video-grid call. Chat is text only. The type sets how people talk and move, so pick it based on how your group should interact.
What is an Open Spatial room?
An Open Spatial room is a walkable 3D space with spatial audio. Everyone has an avatar on a map, and your voice gets louder as you walk closer to someone. Several conversations can happen in one room at once, just like a real venue.

Pick Open Spatial when you want people to mingle. Guests move their avatars around a map, and the audio follows their position, so a 40-person mixer naturally breaks into small clusters instead of one giant call. You can swap the map, set a background, and choose a lighting vibe.
Good for: meetups, networking, parties, virtual offices, after-work hangs, and any event where you want side conversations.
What is a Conference room?
A Conference room is a classic video-grid call. Everyone shares one audio channel and sees each other in a grid, with layouts including gallery, speaker, dynamic, and filmstrip. It works like the video calls people already know.

Pick Conference when one person presents and everyone listens, or when a small group needs face-to-face talk with no walking around. Good for: webinars, all-hands talks, panels, demos, and standard meetings.
What is a Chat room?
A Chat room is text only. There is no audio or video, just a place to type messages. Use it for announcements, links, and side discussion that does not need a live call.

Pick Chat when a conversation works better in writing. A Chat room keeps the noise out of your live rooms, holds onto links and notes, and gives quieter guests a way to take part. See Chat & direct messages for how messaging works.
Good for: a help desk, a links-and-resources board, pre-event questions, or a quiet corner during a busy event.
Your flat can hold all three types at once. Many organizers run an Open Spatial main floor, a Conference stage for talks, and a Chat room for questions. Add as many rooms as you need in Create & configure rooms.
