Plans and limits

How Free, Monthly, and Day Pass work, plus the limits you might run into.

Last updated:

You pay for capacity, not for people

Every plan is priced by how many people can be in your flat at the same time. Guests always join free: no accounts required, no per-guest charges. Full pricing is on the pricing page.

Does flat.social have paid plans?

Yes. There are three ways to run a flat: the Free plan (up to 5 people at once), the Monthly plan ($6 per seat per month, from 10 to 100 seats), and the Day Pass ($2 per seat per day) for one-off events. A seat means one concurrent spot in your flat, not a named user.

The three plans

PlanPriceCapacity
Free$0 foreverUp to 5 people at once
Monthly$6 per seat per monthYou choose, 10 to 100 seats
Day Pass$2 per seat per dayUp to 100 people for 24 hours

Free is a full flat: spatial audio and video rooms, your own maps and look, unlimited session length. The only limit is capacity, up to 5 people in your flat at once.

Monthly raises that capacity to a number you pick between 10 and 100, billed per seat. You can resize the seat count whenever you like, prorated, and cancel anytime from your flat's billing settings.

A Day Pass boosts capacity for a single 24-hour window: pick the start time in your timezone when you buy it. On the Free plan a pass starts at 10 seats. If you already have a Monthly plan you pay only for the extra seats above it, from 1 seat up. A scheduled pass can be rescheduled up until 5 minutes before it starts. If you need to cancel one, contact [email protected].

Capacity is counted across your whole flat, all rooms together, and the platform ceiling is 100 concurrent people per flat. Planning something bigger? Talk to us.

Current limits

A few settings have fixed limits. None of them block normal use, but it helps to know them when you set up a room or upload your branding. Here is the full list.

Flat capacitySet by your plan (5 free, up to 100 paid)
Room capacity setting2 to 100 people (default 20)
Domain allowlistUp to 10 domains
Room name2 to 32 characters
Room URL (slug)2 to 32 characters
Room descriptionUp to 150 characters
Your flat's descriptionUp to 1,000 characters

Flat capacity vs. room capacity

These are two different knobs. Flat capacity comes from your plan: it caps how many people can be in your whole flat at once, across every room. Room capacity is a per-room setting from 2 to 100 people (new rooms default to 20) that you pick when you create and configure a room. For a mingling event, smaller rooms keep conversations cozy, while a 100-person room suits a big all-hands or keynote.

Access and naming limits

The domain allowlist holds up to 10 email domains, which is plenty for letting in one company plus a few partner organizations. Manage it in privacy and access control.

Names and descriptions have character limits too. A room name and URL are each 2 to 32 characters, a room description is up to 150 characters, and your whole flat description can run to 1,000 characters. Keep names short and memorable so links are easy to share.

Upload limits

For branding, a background image can be up to 5MB, and your logo should be at least 200 x 200 pixels so it stays crisp. See branding, logo, look and feel to upload yours.

Expecting a crowd for one event only? A Day Pass is usually the cheapest option: $2 per seat for a 24-hour window, no subscription needed.
