What is a Conference room in flat.social?
A Conference room is a video-grid call, like a standard meeting. There are no avatars and no walking around: everyone appears as a tile, and audio is shared rather than spatial. It is the right format for a talk, a stand-up, or any session where one group focuses together.
Switch the layout
Use the view-mode button in the toolbar to change how tiles are arranged. Pick whichever matches the moment:
- Gallery shows everyone in an even grid. Best for discussions where each person matters equally.
- Speaker puts the current speaker on a big stage with the rest in a filmstrip alongside.
- Dynamic rearranges itself as people talk, so attention follows the conversation.
- Filmstrip keeps faces in a slim strip, leaving room for content or a single focus.
Read the tiles
Each tile shows a person's video, or their initials if their camera is off, plus small icons for their mic and camera status. A glance tells you who is muted and who is on camera. When someone shares their screen, a dedicated screen-share tile takes the spotlight so everyone can follow along.
Switch to Speaker or Dynamic during a presentation so the person talking stays front and centre, then drop back to Gallery for open discussion.
There's no walking up to people here. Volume doesn't change with distance because Conference rooms aren't spatial. For proximity audio, you want a spatial room instead.
