How do I see who's around in flat.social?

Open the people panel. It lists everyone in your room and across the whole flat, shows who is online, and tells you which room each person is in. From there you can search by name, view a profile, and start a direct message.

The people panel shows who is online and where they are.

Filter and search for people

The panel can show just your current room or everyone across the whole flat. Switch the filter depending on whether you want to see who is nearby or who is around at all.

Looking for one person? Type their name in the search box and the list narrows as you type. Handy when a busy flat has people spread across several rooms.

What is presence in flat.social?

Presence is the live status that shows who is online right now and which room they are in. A green dot means online; the room label tells you where to find them if you want to walk over or start a chat.

View a profile or start a DM

Click a person to view their profile and see who they are. From there you can start a direct message to reach them privately, even if they are in a different room.

Picture this: you join a community flat, open the people panel, and spot a teammate marked online two rooms over. One DM later you have agreed to meet in the lounge.

Use the whole-flat filter to find someone fast, then check their room label and walk over, or just DM them where they are.
