Best Tool for a Virtual After Party

What is an After Party?

As the name suggests, after party is the party that happens after a main event. During an after party the participants of the event might continue to network and meet others for more time. It’s an extension to the main event that is usually more casual and relaxed. After parties happen after conferences, concerts and all sorts of events that gather people together.

What is a virtual after party?

Imagine you’re organising a virtual conference. A number of speakers will be invited to give talks and presentations. Guests of the events will listen carefully, form opinions and learn from the event.

If you’re organising your event in a one-dimensional video-conferencing platform like ZOOM or Microsoft Teams, there is a high change your event will end with just talks. There is no opportunity for the guests to interact with each other - they can only talk to the main presenter who is on the stage at the moment.

Guests networking is an important part of an event but it’s very often omitted when events are held virtually. This creates a limiting and one-directional experience that is empty and non-engaging.

How to allow virtual events guests to network and connect after the main event?

The answer is on this page - it’s a virtual after party!

The answer is simple - create a virtual event venue on flat.social where your online guests will be able to hang out and chat like they would be in a physical location together.flat.social allows your remote team to brainstorm, connect and collaborate in a fun virtual workspace that replicates the communicational dynamics of a physical office.

At the core, every participant can move around and talk with others in proximity. Creating your first virtual workspace is really simple - you only need to create a permanent space (takes less than minute) and distribute the link to your team.
1. Sign up for free & create a virtual space on flat.social
2. Customise the space and brand it with your event's logo
3. Add the link to the calendar invites. The link to a flat is permanent and never changes which makes it easier to join in.
4. If you wish, connect the virtual space with your Slack workspace and set up recurring reminders that will notify your team about any events and meetings that you would like to organise in the space.

What are the benefits of a virtual after party?

Improve guest engagement

Webinars are among the least engaging virtual events. The communication is one-directional - the person presenting takes the spotlight and gives a talk that might last up to a couple hours. Participants of the event are listening passively and maybe sometimes someone will ask a question.

During a physical event participants are in the same physical location and can connect after the event. Even if it’s just a quick chat on the way out, details can be exchanged and there are interesting conversations to be had. Adding an after-party that happens right after the main event is a great way to continue to engage your online guests.

It's fun

While some events might be serious, an after-party can bring a lot of smiles and fun to your online guests. Being able to relax and joke around after the main event with other attendees can build stronger connections and establish a community. Virtual event spaces on flat.social are designed to maximise on the fun and connection aspect.

Create connections between the guests

Networking is a crucial aspect of most types of events and skipping it in a virtual event takes away a lot of value. Organising an after-party on flat.social where your online guests can network after the main event adds value for the guests and through that, to the organisers as well.

Hence, flat.social was created. It does not aim to be a complete replacement - it's an addition for when the priorities switch from productivity to human interaction. It's here to bring smile and show that spontanous creative moments and connections can happen without having to travel to an office or an event venue.

How do participants move in a flat.social meeting?

Meeting attendees can use WASD keys like in multi-player games or drag themselves around with a mouse.

How do I speak to all of the guests at once?

The experience is spatial by default - only ones around will hear you. You can however use the loudspeaker feature to speak to everyone at once. It's useful if you want to make an announcement or managing a larger workshop where attendees are distributed around the room.
