What is the Insights dashboard on flat.social?
Insights is your flat's usage analytics dashboard. It shows activity charts, attendance patterns, session duration, a member-activity table, a geographic breakdown, and screenshare usage. You reach it in Settings → Insights, and it is gated by the View Insights permission.
What Insights shows you
Insights answers the questions every organizer asks: did people show up, did they stay, and what did they do? It pulls together usage data into a few tabs.
- Overview: headline numbers like unique visitors, visits, sessions, peak concurrency, total time, and median visit, plus an activity-over-time chart and your top rooms and locations.
- Attendance: new vs returning visitors, peak rooms, and a busiest-times heatmap.
- Engagement: camera, mic, and screenshare adoption, plus how engaged people were.
How to read the Insights dashboard
- 1Open Insights
Go to Settings → Insights. You need the View Insights permission to see it.
- 2Pick a time range
Use the range picker to choose Last 7 days, 30 days, 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months. The whole dashboard updates to that window.
- 3Set the chart grain
On the activity chart, group results by Day, Week, Month, or Year to zoom in or out on the trend.
- 4Switch tabs
Move between Overview, Attendance, and Engagement to dig into who came, when they came, and what they did.
- 5Export if you need to
Use the download button to export the activity data as a CSV for your own reports.
Time ranges and grain
Two controls shape every view. The time range sets the window: 7d, 30d, 3mo, 6mo, or 12mo. The grain sets how finely the activity chart is grouped: day, week, month, or year.
A short range with a day grain is great for reviewing a single event. A long range with a month grain shows whether your community is growing over the season. Picture a weekly meetup: 30 days grouped by week tells you at a glance whether attendance is trending up.
The dashboard is gated by the View Insights permission (canViewInsights). Grant it only to people who should see usage data. See Roles and permissions to assign it.
