How do I join a flat?

Open the link your host shared in a modern browser. Flat.social loads in the page, asks for your camera and microphone, and shows a setup screen before you enter. You do not install anything. Most people are in within a minute.

How to join a space

  1. 1
    Open the link

Click the room link your host shared. It opens in your browser.

  2. 2
    Allow camera and mic

When your browser asks, allow access to your microphone (and camera, if you want video). Flat.social needs this to let you talk.

  3. 3
    Set up your devices

On the setup screen, pick the right camera and microphone and toggle each on or off. You can see a preview before joining.

  4. 4
    Enter your name

If you are joining as a guest, type the name others will see.

  5. 5
    Join the room

Select Join Room to enter. You appear as an avatar, ready to move and talk.

Check your camera and mic, set your name, then join.

You can join with your mic and camera off and turn them on once you are inside. Look for the controls at the bottom of the room.

Do I need an account?

Not always. If the host allows guests, you can join with just a name. Some spaces are restricted to people with an account or a specific email address, in which case you will be asked to sign in. If a space is private and you are not on the list, ask the host for access.

Browser asking for permission?

If you blocked the mic or camera by accident, you will not be heard. See Camera or mic not working to re-enable them.
