How do I create a room on flat.social?
To create a room, open Settings, go to Rooms, and click Add Room. The create dialog asks for a name, a URL, an optional description, and a room type. For Open Spatial rooms you can also pick a map template. You can edit any of these later, so your first choices don't have to be perfect.
Before you start, decide which room type fits: Open Spatial for mingling, Conference for talks, or Chat for text.
How to create and configure a room
- 1Open the create dialog
Go to Settings, open the Rooms section, and click Add Room. The Create New Room dialog opens.
- 2Name the room
Type a Room Name (2 to 32 characters). This is the label guests see in your lobby, like "Main Floor" or "Q&A Stage".
- 3Set the URL
Pick a URL slug (2 to 32 characters, lowercase letters, numbers, and dashes). Flat.social checks availability as you type and shows "Available" or "Already taken".
- 4Add a description (optional)
Write a short description of the room (up to 150 characters) so guests know what it is for. You can leave this blank.
- 5Choose the room type
Pick Open Spatial, Conference, or Chat. The type sets how people talk and move and cannot be changed later.
- 6Pick a map template (Open Spatial only)
If you chose Open Spatial, click Select Map Template to pick the 3D environment. This is optional and you can build on the map later.
- 7Create the room
Click Create Room. It appears in your lobby right away, ready for guests.
Where do I set room capacity?
Each room has a maximum number of participants, from 2 to 100, with a default of 20. Capacity caps how many people can be in that room at once, which keeps a small breakout room from filling up like the main floor. For how limits work across your flat, see Plans & limits.
Picture a launch event: you might cap the Conference stage at 100 but hold a VIP Open Spatial room at 10 so it stays intimate.
How do I edit a room later?
Open Settings, go to Rooms, and click the room you want to change. You can rename it, rewrite the description, and adjust its look. Drag the handle on the left of each row to reorder rooms in your lobby. To change how the room looks, see Customize rooms.
A room's web address follows the pattern flat.social/{flat}/{room}. If you change the room URL, links you already shared stop working, so share the new one. See Invite people.
